DNA Methylation Mechanism
In DNA, methylation usually occurs in the CpG islands, a CG rich region, upstream of the promoter region. The letter "p" here signifies that the C and G are connected by a phosphodiester bond. In humans, DNA methylation is carried out by a group of enzymes called DNA methyltransferases. These enzymes not only determine the DNA methylation patterns during the early development, but are also responsible for copying these patterns to the strands generated from DNA replication.

In addition to locating the primer anywhere on the gene of interest, Beacon Designer can design primers across exon-exon or exon-intron junctions. These primers designed across exon intron junctions help selective amplification of cDNA from gDNA.

Prediction of CpG islands
Beacon Designer™ predicts CpG islands in accordance with Gardiner-Garden and Frommer guidelines.  load the sequence in Beacon Designer™ and the program will automatically predict these regions. You can also specify the CpG regions manually in a sequence. The CpG islands are displayed in green in the Sequence view tab and the regions that are rich in GC are displayed in red.
